North China city joins top research site list

The city of Changchun, Jilin province has been added to China's Top 10 research city list by a British scientific journal Nature magazine for 2015, according to its China supplement that appeared on Dec 17.
The city came in at 6th place, following the traditional powerhouses of Beijing, Shanghai, Nanjing, and Wuhan.
The magazine bases its rating on each city's research capacity in life sciences, chemistry, and physical sciences with the focus on prominent academic journal articles and additional areas of nanomaterials and rare earth.
Accounting for more than 98 percent of the city's composite index, was its articles from Jilin University, Changchun University of Science and Technology, and the Chinese Academy of Sciences'Changchun Institute of Applied Chemistry and Changchun Institute of Optics.
Other rankings were Hong Kong, coming in at 7th, Hangzhou at 8th, Guangzhou, 9th, and Tianjin, 10th.
