Asian elephant ‘reborn’ in Jilin

2016-04-19

An Asian elephant that was brought to a wildlife park in the city of Changchun, Jilin province, 30 years ago and who died of a sudden heart attack in 2008 at the age of 30, has been brought back to life, so to speak, and was put on display at the provincial nature museum recently.

To create a memorial for the beloved Ganmai, the park decided and started in December of 2008 to try to keep him "alive" by restoring his skin and hair through a preservation process then attaching it to a sort of skeleton, then coloring and polishing it to make the sample as life-like as possible to keep the magic alive.
