Updated: 2010-02-03

Qingdao Double Stars stopped Friday their three-game losing streak by beating the coach-less Jilin Northeast Tigers 96-72 in a match between two bottom teams of the Chinese Basketball Association league (CBA).

Qingdao took the advantage of the absence of Jilin's head coach, Gao Shumin, who was suspended five games for critical speech of referees last round, to secure their only third win after 11 rounds.

Gao fired up against referees on the post-game news conference when his team lost 86-84 to Bayi Fubang.

Referees whistled against Jilin to put Wang Zhizhi on the line with 26 seconds to go when Jilin led 84-82. Jilin's players and coaches complaint the whistle and was punished by a technical foul. Wang made all four free-throws to win the match.

The league announced the first penalty of the season on Friday by suspending Gao and fined Jilin 50,000 yuan (about 7,000 U.S. dollars).

The away team obviously failed to recover from the blow and trailed 53-37 on the break. They lost every quarter to surrender the eighth loss of the season.

Chen Kai led Qingdao with 23 points while Chris Williams added 19 points, nine rebounds and eight steals.

Jilin committed 26 turnovers with Rodgers Edward had the team-high 12 points.

Defending champions Guangdong Hongyuan had the 11th victory by trouncing Shannxi Kylin 143-118 when guard Wang Shipeng had the season-high 36 points and nine rebounds.

The 143-point was the highest scoring line of the season as Guangdong will face the second-placed Xinjiang Guanghui at home on Sunday.
