The Liaoning provincial government held a special conference on Nov 21 to call for implementation of measures issued by the State Council that require local governments to stabilize consumer prices.
Chen Zhenggao, governor of Liaoning province, presided over the meeting and gave a speech. Chen said that since July commodity prices have increased each month in Liaoning as well as in other parts of China, which put pressures on urban and rural residents, especially the middle and low-income groups.
In recent years, Liaoning has experienced rapid development in agriculture industrialization and production capacity of agricultural products. Chen said that Liaoning province has an adequate supply of agricultural products and has established a relatively comprehensive market system and social security system, and therefore should have the confidence and ability to control commodity prices.
Chen called for local governments in Liaoning province to realize the importance and urgency of stabilizing commodity prices, implement the policy issued by the State Council, take measures to boost production, ensure supply, stabilize commodity prices, ensure people’s basic life, and make sure that Liaoning province has a fast yet steady social and economic development.
Liaoning provincial government put forward five measures to stabilize commodity prices. These measures cover adequate supplies of necessities, punishment of illegal actions, subsidies, government’s responsibility, and publicity and timely delivery of information.
