China sets up 1st non-gov't emergency rescue group

Updated: 2010-12-17

The first and only non-governmental motorized emergency rescue alliance was formally set up in Shenyang City of northeast China's Liaoning Province on Dec. 12.

The preliminary goal of the alliance was to organize 10,000 qualified volunteers who are capable of carrying out a wide range of first aid procedures in concert with national rescue departments.

The volunteers are expected to come from all walks of life, which included special motor vehicle drivers, small aircraft powered parachute controllers, healthcare professionals, outdoor sports coaches and backstage logistics staff. Currently, 2,000 volunteers are ready to serve.

At present, it is difficult for emergency relief departments in China to rapidly arrive at dangerous situation spots because of a deficient social relief system. The lack of professional management and well-knit standard as well as insufficient knowledge of rescue methods are expected to be improved.
