Firefighters have brought a fire at an oil refinery in northeast China's Liaoning Province under control, eliminating the possibility of secondary explosions.
An explosion at about 9 a.m. Wednesday ignited the blaze at the refinery in Fushun City, said a spokesman for the Publicity Department of the Fushun Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China.
A subsidiary of China National Petroleum Corporation, Fushun Petrochemical Company, owns the refinery.
No casualties have been reported so far.
Thick smoke hovers over the refinery, blotting out most of the sky, witnesses said.
The local government initiated an emergency response to the incident.
The cause of the explosion is under investigation.
