Dandong has made full use of its local cultural heritage and cultural resources to benefit the masses, and thusly has satisfied its dwellers’ ever-increasing requirements for cultural life.
“Spring Greeting”
Diverse activities centering on the Spring Festival and the Lantern Festival are organized, including the Yangko performance tour, children’s painting show, movie projection, couplets writing, lantern riddles, drum performance and photo exhibition. The national intangible cultural heritage Dandong Drum Music and the provincial intangible cultural heritage Performing Stilt Dance While Playing Gong and Drum highlight tradition and folk characteristics. This series of activities won a program award of the 15th “Galaxy Award” held by the Ministry of Culture in 2010.

Activities centering on national holidays and weekends are organized. More than 100 cultural activities are held every year. Programs are performed every day during the holiday weeks and activities are organized every month of the tourist seasons. This program won a provincial organizing award for cultural activities in 2007.
“Cultural Activities to Construct a New Countryside”
Services for farmers are carried out in the rural areas throughout the year by the “information service team,” “art counseling team,” “art performance team,” “book service team” and “movie service team.” More than 10,000 farmers have received benefits from the program. This program has made outstanding contributions to the improvement of farmers’ skills and the enrichment of farmers’ cultural life.
“Ethnic Korean Pegeant”

It was a spontaneous activity in the beginning. Now it has grown into a cultural pageant of ethnic Korean people in Dandong. The party integrates art performance, traditional competitive matches and other comprehensive activities and possesses unique ethnic characteristics and regional charms. The range of participation has been extended from Dandong to the whole province.
“Yalu River International Tourist Festival”

Centering on the annual Yalu River International Tourist Festival in Dandong, the activities are held in various forms and include the parade attended by ordindary people, the photo exhibition for exchange between China and South Korea. The serial mass cultural activities demonstrate the charm and cultural glamor of Dandong and boost the international image of the city.
“Guarding the Root”

Featured with folk custom affairs and cultural activities, Dandong has formed a series of cultural activities called Guarding the Root, aiming to protect tradition. The children’s Peking Opera evening party in lunar January, the tea party for Chinese classic music at the Double Seventh Festival and other traditional festival and cultural activities reflect the locals’ custom, religious concepts, good wishes for life.
