The 6th Liaoning Provincial Farmers Games is to open in Chaoyang district, the provincial capital of Shenyang city, from Sept 20 to 23. Seventy-seven farmer athletes from Dandong city will take part in the competition that includes basketball, table tennis, wrestling, tug of war, chess, athletics and fitness performance.

The farmer sports event is designed to showcase the spirit of Liaoning's new countryside and to improve the physical fitness of farmers. They are encouraged to participate in the games without being scored.

The fitness performance will be given by a 20-member Yangko team. Yangko is a traditional Korean ethnic group folk dance that is popular in Northeast China.

During the games, a painting exhibition and a calligraphy and photography show will demonstrate artistic works made by farmers from Liaoning province. Dandong farmers' works account for 30 of the pieces.
