The National Public Security Hero Awards ceremony was held at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on May 18, 2012.

Zhou Yongsheng, chief of the Fifth Battalion of the Patrol Special Branch of the Dandong Municipal Public Security Bureau, was invited to attend the conference. As the only one from Liaoning province seated in the front row, he had the chance to shake hands with state leaders of China.

As many as 450 heroes and representatives of collectives attended the awards ceremony which was held to praise them for their outstanding heroic deeds and performances over the past five years. This is the ninth conference since the founding of new China in 1949.
