Agricultural insurance has seen increased popularity in Dandong, a city in northeast China's Liaoning Province.
In the first half of 2012, 60,773 hectares of farmland was insured in Dandong, 21 percent higher than the same period last year.
The insured farmland consists of 47,767 hectares of planted corn and 12,800 hectares of rice.
Applying prudent agricultural policies toward farmland increases farmers' ability to prevent and reduce disasters as well as improves their capacity to recover from disasters, said local officials.
