The first snow to fall in Shenyang, Liaoning province, on Nov 19, has had a good effect on some businesses such as food deliveries, antiskid tires, and winter tourism.
Recently, there is a huge rise in the food business in Shenyang, or as one delivery man put it, "I used to deal with about 20 orders at a time but now I’m busy with more than 30 orders every day."
As a result, some customers have to wait for as much as an hour to get their food, so, according to one fast-food restaurant, "Sometimes we encourage customers to come eat in, instead of waiting for a delivery."
So, these "lazy" folks who may be using the chilly snowfall as a good excuse for not setting foot outside, they are in fact driving the "snow economy", while others are driving it in another more literal way.
According to one tire supplier in the city's Tiexi district, "The snow has caused many people to buy winter tires for their cars, and sometimes they have to queue up for hours to get their tires put on the car."
And as temperature drops gradually, many ski resorts in Shenyang is planning to open to visitors this week, and, as one China Youth Travel Service employee notes, "The new high-speed railway lines in the Northeast help to stimulate the 'snow economy' in this area". The hot spring business is also seeing more tourists, according to a Shenyang tourist center.
