When a train left the city of Shenyang's station, in Liaoning province for Lhasa, Tibet, on Feb 1, it was the first train from China's Northeast to make the run, reports Shenyang Evening, noting that it was specially equipped for the trip, with an oxygen supply to combat altitude sickness among passengers, which is supplied by something like a central air-conditioning system and with oxygen masks near the seats in case passengers feel nauseous.
The line is separated into two parts – from Shenyang station to Beijing West Station and from there to Lhasa – so Shenyang passengers have to buy two tickets. It changes its number at the Beijing West Station. Plans call for the two lines to combine and use a same number this April. All signs on the train are written in Chinese, English and Tibetan.
