The first western China's Orchid Exposition and the eleventh Yunnan province Orchid Exposition officially opened at 10 am on Feb 4. It was opened for free to the general public for three days.

The orchid resource in Lijiang city is very rich. It is the main producing area of Cymbidium and is the hometown of the Yunnan traditional flower, Daxuesu. The exhibition was themed "protecting orchid resources, promoting orchid culture, and advancing the orchid industry ". It used the orchid show as a platform to display the beauty of the Lijiang orchid and Lijiang scenery to the world.

The Sichuan Museum, Chongqing Museum, Guangxi Museum, Guizhou Museum and Yunnan Museum were set up for the orchid exposition. During the Expo, a series of activities were carried out, such as an orchid exchange, an orchid product display and academic seminars on orchid industry development.
