A delegation from the Taiwan-based Straits Exchange Foundation, led by Gao Konglian, chairman and secretary-general of the foundation, paid a visit to Lijiang, Yunnan province on Sept 6. Jihong Longjia, deputy mayor of Lijiang, received the delegation.
Jihong Longjia introduced Lijiang's economic and social development to the delegation. He noted Lijiang's rich natural resources and three world heritage sites. As a home to many ethnic groups, Lijiang is a world-renowned tourist destination with diverse folk culture and beautiful scenery.
In recent years, the city has sought development for a more harmonious society and better living standards. "Lijiang is a land of opportunity. We hope Taiwan and Lijiang can cooperate on a wider scale and we welcome all Taiwan tourists and investors to Lijiang," said Jihong Longjia.
Gao said that he was deeply impressed by the progress Lijiang has made over the past 10 years. He hoped that the two sides could strengthen their cooperation in tourism, trade and cultural exchange. "The Taiwan-based Straits Exchange Foundation will play an active role in encouraging and supporting Taiwan companies to invest in Lijiang," he said.
