Border guards encourage civilized conduct

A border guard introduces pamphlets on civilized conduct to tourists in Lijiang.

The Lijiang Frontier Inspection Station of Yunnan Public Security Frontier Corps recently held a series of activities with the aim of improving the behavior of Chinese tourists traveling overseas, people.com.cn reported on Oct 17.

Border guards gave out pamphlets to tour groups, and messages concerning conduct outside of the country were aired on LED screens around the town.

In addition, the authorities sent many "civilization messengers" to the scenic spots of the Old Town of Lijiang, which attracts large numbers of visitors, in order to raise awareness about laws concerning conduct of tourists.

The campaign also included news media, which offered information on foreign customs and cultural differences relating to China and the rest of the world.

The authorities distributed a total of about 5,000 pamphlets to Chinese nationals set to travel overseas, and many said they would pay attention to their behavior, thus maintaining a good image of China.
