A cooperation agreement to build a Cultural Industry College of Dianxi University of Technology was signed on April 2 between Yunnan Cultural Industry Investment Holding Group Co and Yunnan University of Nationalities.

The idea to construct a new type of application-oriented university-Dianxi University of Technology-was proposed by the Education Ministry in 2012. It also planned to set up secondary special colleges in western Yunnan, an area called “Dianxi” in Chinese.

Cultural Industry College is the result of those efforts. Yunnan Cultural Industry Investment Holding Group and Yunnan University of Nationalities plan to initiate the college in Yonglong county of Lijiang, based on the group’s industrial chains developed in Yunnan, Southeast Asia and South Asia, and the university’s experience and advantages in majors of ethnic culture education.

In their speeches at the signing ceremony, leaders from both Yunnan Cultural Industry Investing Holding Group and Yunnan University of Nationalities explained the reasons Lijiang was chosen: Lijiang is rich in cultural tourism resources and a good cultural market, and the municipal government and municipal CPC committee attach great importance to local culture and education development.

They went on to explain that they will adopt an operation system that integrates production, education and research to cultivate professionals in diverse jobs in the field of cultural industry.

The college will enroll about 200 students at first, and eventually, about 2,000 students are expected to study at the college.

Officials from Lijiang recognized the college as a new driving force for the city’s education and cultural tourism development and promised to create a favorable environment for the college’s construction.
