Lijiang celebrates Chinese Cultural Heritages Day

In order to publicize knowledge surrounding cultural heritage preservation and improve the public’s awareness on the significance of such heritage preservation and application, a series of activities themed “Enliven Cultural Heritages” were carried out in the Old Town of Lijiang, South China’s Yunnan province, on June 14, to celebrate the ninth Chinese Cultural Heritages Day.

Under the organization of the preservation and administration committee of the Old Town of Lijiang, a total of 50 volunteers participated in the event. Publicity materials -- including a special report on the ninth Chinese Cultural Heritages Day published by Lijiang Daily, pamphlets to publicize the preservation and administration of the old town， as well as the related preservation and administration regulations -- were released to the ancient city’s tourists, local residents and merchants in the town by the volunteers.

During the event, the organizer set a booth to supply inquiry services surrounding cultural heritages and the administration, commercial regulations and cultural relics preservation in the old town. Baishaxiyue (Baisha fine music), a kind of ancient Chinese large-scale, classical orchestral music that contains choruses, clear storylines and music movements, and also an intangible cultural heritage at the national level, was performed on the day.

In addition to a cultural heritage knowledge lectures, a promotion for the old town’s public account on WeChat, a popular mobile social networking platform, was also included in the series of activities.

Through a series of activities on the Cultural Heritages Day, the participants received knowledge on cultural heritages as well as related regulations on the Old Town of Lijiang’s preservation and management. The event was expected to promote the public’s sense of responsibility to preserve cultural heritages, according to He Hongyang, deputy head of the preservation and administration of the Old Town of Lijiang.
