New City Library opens in Lijiang

Lijiang's new City Library with an investment of 46 million yuan ($7.42 million) opened on Dec 17, Yunnan.net reported.

The new library is about 7,913-square-meters with a collection of 150,000 books, including the classics of Dongba culture and literature of local ethnicities. In addition, the library has collected the latest domestic and international research of the Naxi Dongba culture.

The old Lijiang City Library was constructed in 1979 and demolished in 2004. Construction of the new City Library started in November of 2011. The newly-constructed City Library has five floors with a capacity of more than 800 people. Meanwhile, the library is divided into different zones in accordance with the different functions, including a special reading room for visually impaired people.
