Xiwa’e Island is located in the northwestern part of Lugu Lake, about 2,000 meters away from the lake’s bank. Ayunshan, the superintendent of the headman, built a villa on the island in 1916. So the island is also known as the headman island.
However, all the splendors of the old days were smashed in turmoil. Only relics remain of the island’s history of prosperity. Now Xiwa’e island is heaven for snakes, which is why it’s also called Snake Island. Luosang Yishi Living Buddha was born on the island. Recollecting the history and walking under the shade of trees on Xiwa’e Island, one can discover splendid tales of the past.
