Yunnan province's first-ever "smart toilet" recently became operational in the Lijiang's Yulong Snow Mountain Scenic Zone, Xinhua reported on Jan 23.

The newly built toilet is located at the Blue Valley of the Yulong Snow Mountain Scenic Zone, where tourists can not only find the nearest toilet through their smart phones, but also see how busy the toilet is and its overall condition.

Complaints and suggestions on the toilet's condition and cleanliness can also be reported by phone.

The facility was jointly constructed by Tencent and the scenic zone. There is a display set at the entrance to show available squat toilets.

Yunnan is now pushing forward its work on the project of "Travelling Yunnan with a Phone". Upon completion, tourists will be able to find overall services for eating, living, transportation and shopping with their phone all across the province.

Local government management services will also be improved as the management platform allows regulatory authorities to respond promptly to problems such as tourist complaints, price fraud and forced sale processes.

Official from the Yunnan Province Tourism Development Commission said that the project is necessary to rectify tourism uncertainties and promote the comprehensive upgrading of the industry. It's expected to lay a solid foundation for tourism development in the region.
