A concrete granary in the North African nation of Algeria -- built by POWERCHINA -- received the National Quality Engineering Award (Overseas Projects) on Dec 1 from the China Association of Construction Enterprise Management.
Established in 1981, the National Quality Engineering Award is the earliest and most prestigious national quality award in the field of engineering construction in China backed by the State Council, China's Cabinet.
The Algerian concrete granary is the largest of its kind in Africa. It joins a total of nine granaries which are located in the eastern, central and western regions of Algeria.
With a designed total grain reserve of 350,000 metric tons, the project covers a construction area of 80,000 square meters.

It began construction on Feb 22 in 2014 and was completed and started operating on May 31, 2019.
It has adopted Chinese design standards, Chinese construction technology and uses Chinese manufacturing equipment.
All its technologies meet the requirements of European food storage standards and have reached international levels.
With the use of the concrete silos, the advanced technology and reliable equipment has effectively alleviated the problem of insufficient grain storage capacity in Algeria.
During this year's COVID-19 epidemic, the production and utilization of the granary had especially ensured the effective supply and price stability of Algeria's grain.
This achievement was highly praised by the Algerian Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
The outstanding performance of the Algerian granary has enhanced the brand image of POWERCHINA in Africa and further deepened cooperation and exchanges between China and Algeria.
