Food safety will be getting more focus at this year’s National Games.

According to an emergency plan introduced August 13, headquarters responsible for food safety will be set up at the 11th National Games, taking place in Jinan, Shandong province from October 11 to October 23, 2009. A system for food safety monitoring and serious accident alerts will also be established to ensure that immediate responses to emergency situations are carried out, should any serious food safety accidents occur.

Serious food safety accidents are classified into four levels in the plan, and any accident qualifying as above level four will call for immediate response, the plan states.

A data bank for nearly 50 food safety experts has been set up for forecast, analysis and advisory on potential food safety accidents during the Games.
