On September 6, the 15th International Mount Taishan Climbing Invitational started. More than 3000 competitors from more than 29 countries and districts participated in this event.
Competitors were divided into an international group and a local group, which was sub-divided into a youth group, mid-age group and old age group, with the respective course of 9.4 km, 8.6 km and 5.9 km.
"Mountain climbing is a sports event with long history. As the symbol of the Chinese spirit and world natural and cultural heritage, Mount Taishan has attracted more and more athletes and mountain climbing fans to come here and come here. We believe this event will become a stage for friends from all over the world to communicate and cooperate with each other," said Li Hongfeng, Mayor of Tai'an.
"I love Mount Taishan, because it is the saint mountain of China," said Yuan Neng Liang Yi, a Japanese fan over seventy years old who has taken part in this event four times.
Judy Judd, from Utah, USA, has lived in China for 5 years. This is her second time taking part in this activity. "I love China's culture. The people here are quite friendly. I'm so happy that people who love China and like mountain-climbing get together here," she said.
"This is the first time I've been here. I love Mount Taishan. I'll come here next year," said Hopelyn Clift, coming from Tennessee State of the United States.
