Shandong province has launched a week-long trade and investment promotion campaign from June 9 to 14 in Hong Kong, one of the province’s most important business partners.

The event will offer 300 business cooperation projects in different fields including high technology, advanced manufacturing, energy-saving, eco-economy, infrastructure, agriculture, fisheries and modern services.

To promote the projects, a high-level forum attended by businessmen from Hong Kong and Shandong will be held along with six symposiums focusing on cultural industry, modern services, key economic development zones, advanced manufacturing, overseas listing and tourism.

Jiang Daming, governor of Shandong, will lead the business delegation which includes senior provincial officials, 17 moyors, a proof of the high importance the province has attached to the event.

On Monday, Weihai, Liaocheng, Tai’an and Weifang held their own trade and investment promotions. Tai’an, which is known for its Taishan Mountain, signed 21 deals with a total investment of $2.24 billion, of which $ 868 million will come from overseas. The deals cover a wide range of sectors, including new energy, modern services, advanced manufacturing, tourism, urban construction and real estate.

“As the renowned international finance and trading hub, Hong Kong is one of our most important business partners and plays an indispensable role in our overseas trade activities,” Wang Yunpeng, mayor of Tai’an, said at the 2012 (Hong Kong) Tai’an Key Industries Seminar held at JW Marriott Hotel.

Tai’an has held business promotion events in Hong Kong for three years running, attracting a total of 84 Hong Kong-funded projects with an investment of $11.05 billion.

By the end of 2011, Hong Kong investors have established more than 70 companies in Tai’an, making Hong Kong the largest source of overseas investment for the city.

The city’s Mountain Taishan, a UNESCO natural and cultural heritage site, attracts more then 50,000 Hong Kong tourists every year.
