The fourth Weifang International Kite Surfing Competition will be held in the Weifang Binhai Economic and Technological Development Zone, Shandong province, from August 18 to 21.
The annual event is sponsored jointly by the General Administration of Sport of China and the Weifang-headquartered International Kite Federation. It is expected to attract first-class kite-surfing athletes and kite fans from more than 30 countries and regions.
Other activities to be held include a grand dance and song show, a founding ceremony to honor the international kite surfing committee, a China-Japan-South Korea free trade development forum, and a national fishing competition.
A coastal, international kite surfing training base was built in the Weifang Binhai Economic and Technological Development Zone in 2011, with an investment of 240 million yuan ($37.7 million). Boasting optimal wind conditions and spacious beach, Weifang is regarded as an ideal place for kite surfing in China.
