An orchestra from Teatro alla Scala, the world-famous opera house in Milan, will give a performance of baroque music in Qingdao’s Grand Theater, Shandong province, on September 21.
Founded in 1778 to replace the Royal Ducal Theater, which was destroyed by fire, and had been until then the home of opera in Milan, the Teatro alla Scala - also known as La Scala - has been since then a crossroads for musical history in the country which re-invented lyric opera.
Most of Italy's greatest operatic artists, and many of the finest singers around the world, have appeared at La Scala during the past 200 years. Today, the theater is still recognized as one of the leading opera and ballet theaters in the world and was awarded the Isimbardi Prize by the provincial government in 2012 for its achievement in promoting Milan on the International music stage.
As one of Milan’s cultural heritage sites, Teatro alla Scala offers visitors impressive agendas of art exhibitions and musical concerts.
Teatro alla Scala has been touring many countries and regions to bring its great music exhibitions around the world, such as the United States, Germany, France and Canada. As a typical example of traditional Italian music, it also held concerts in the Shanghai Expo Center during the 2010 Shanghai World Expo. |
