The Shandong Dong'e Ejiao Co, China’s largest ejiao (donkey-hide gelatin) maker (by market share), gave 500,000 yuan worth of Fu Fang Ejiao Jiang, a syrupy ejiao compound, to victims of dengue fever in Shandong province, on Oct 9.
Lin Lifeng, of Guangdong province’s Center for Disaster Control and Prevention, explained that the dengue virus is a mosquito-borne, potentially fatal disease that causes fever combined and muscle and joint ache. It has the ability to inhibit the natural immune response during infection and has many nonstructural proteins that allow the inhibition of the natural immune system response.

Fu Fang Ejiao Jiang can have an effect on dengue fever sufferers by alleviating the inhibition of bone marrow and restoring the hematopoietic system, according to You Sufu, a public health expert from Indonesia. In addition, clinical statistics show that Fu Fang Ejiao Jiang has been the first choice in traditional Chinese medicines for treating dengue fever in Indonesia, by improving hemoglobin and lowering hematocrit to a stable level.

Gu Jianjun, of the National Plastic Engineering Research Center for Chinese Medicine, has said Fu Fang Ejiao Jiang, which has a secret formula, is a good blood tonic.
China has been suffering from dengue fever that spread from Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand to Guangdong, which has had the most victims in the past 20 years. There were dengue-fever victims in Guangdong, in 2006 and, by 2013, the province had 697 percent more victims than for the previous year, increasing to 24,489 confirmed cases and six deaths by Oct 8, 2014.
