Penglai International Airport in the city of Yantai, Shandong province, is scheduled to begin operation on May 28. The new airport features highlights of more aircraft boarding bridges, underground fuel-filling facilities and a take-off visibility of 400 meters.
Laishan airport, the city's old airport, has three aircraft boarding bridges but the new airport is equipped with 19 of them, allowing passengers to board planes directly from the terminal and bringing greater convenience to tourists.

Another highlight of the Penglai airport is its 63 underground fuel-filling wells. To support the wells, a number of small refueling vehicles have been purchased to provide refueling services for the airplanes. The vehicles will obtain fuel from the underground pipelines before refueling planes under the wings. The system was established to minimize hazardous conditions brought by large refueling trucks with large amounts of fuel.

The new airport will also enable planes to take off when visibility is reduced to 400 meters. This is half the permitted take-off limit compared to Laishan airport, which imposes a take-off ban when visibility dropped below 800 meters. The new feature will help tourists save time in case of bad weather.
