Penglai airport in Yantai, Shandong province will open on May 28 and is expected to transport more tourists to their destinations.
Penglai airport has built 39 landing docks to meet the increasing demand of air travel. The annual passenger throughput is expected to reach 12 million by 2020.
The airport will shorten the travel time between Penglai and Northeast China and aims to attract more visitors to the area.
"Convenient transportation plays a key role in tourism development. The airport will help improve the transport networks and boost the tourism industry for Penglai," said Wang Chenghai, head of the Penglai Tourism Bureau.
Penglai, a county-level city in northern Yantai, is a historical and cultural city. It is home to various scenic spots, including Penglai Pavilion, Sanxian Mountain ("Three Fairies Mountain"), the Former Residence of Qi Jiguang (a war-time hero known for his resistance against Japanese aggression) and Chateau Junding.
