The city of Yantai in Shandong province plans to build a multifunctional highway service station at the Qixia segment of Shenhai (Shenyang-Haikou) Highway, said transport officials.

It is expected to finish construction by the end of 2015.

The station will be the first of its kind in Yantai, with functions of supplying petrol, liquefied natural gas (LNG) and electricity.

Two LNG stations will be built in the service area. Each will cover an area of 1,500 square meters and will be equipped with one gas machine. The service station will also be constructed with two charging stations, each including four AC (Alternating Current) posts.

The move aims to encourage the use of LNG and electricity buses to cut transport costs and promote environmental protection.
