The urban management bureau of Yantai, Shandong province organized a cleaning drive with around 300 volunteers taking part to clean the No 1 bathing beach on July 30.

According to the statistics provided by the beach authority, the beach receives more than 40,000 visitors on each dog day recently, thereby, bringing 15 tons of garbage like cigarette butts, paper and bamboo sticks daily.

Several measures have been taken to keep the beach clean, said Zhang Haifeng, the director of the bathing beach. The measures include placing trash cans around the beach, washing the shore regularly and also clearing floating seaweeds on the beach with machines.
