The 10th Shandong Cultural and Art Festival started in Jinan, capital city of Shandong province, on Oct 9.

The festival will feature a series of newly-created dramas, traditional opera performances and art exhibitions to highlight the achievements and progress made by provincial artists in recent years.

The opening performance for the festival was a dance drama. Staged by the local opera and dance drama troupe, it tells the story of a couple and their son in State of Qi, today's Shandong, about 2,000 years ago, which reflects the customs and traditional culture in ancient Shandong to the audience.

Up to 18 dramas and operas will debut at local theaters during the festival, which will end on Oct 27.
