'Flight attendant' faces fraud trial
A woman who allegedly posed online as a flight attendant and is accused taking more than 300,000 yuan is set to face trial. Liu Li, from Weifang city allegedly established an online connection with a man named Jiang Ming in 2012 and told him she was an airline stewardess. Jiang allegedly sent her money upon request from 2012 to 2015. Jiang, believing he was a victim of fraud, contacted the police and Liu was arrested in August.
Driver exceeded passenger limit
A minibus driver was fined for exceeding the passenger limit in Jinan, the provincial capital. The minibus had a capacity of six passengers but actually had 12. The driver had removed the rear seats to accommodate the extra passengers. He was fined 200 yuan.
Fake money is a dead giveaway
A woman in Jining planned to make a fortune by buying and selling counterfeit banknotes, but she soon learned her new notes were a dead giveaway. Surnamed Kong, the woman went to buy 300,000 yuan ($45,000) of counterfeit banknotes in Shangqiu, Henan province, with 60,000 yuan on Jan 19. However, the "money" was actually banknotes for offerings for the dead. Police are investigating the case.
Woman saved, two killed in reservoir
Two people were killed and another saved after falling through ice covering a reservoir. Jiang Tao, 58, and two fellow police officers attempted to rescue the three in Yantai and jumped into water to save them after breaking the ice with his fist. They managed to save the woman but the bodies of her companions were found later.
