Tai'an to hold international outdoor sports challenge
The curtain will rise on the 2017 China (Tai'an) International Mountain Outdoor Sports Challenge on May 13 in the charming city of Tai'an according to the municipal bureau of sports.
The course of the three-day challenge, a race over 175 kilometers, is designed in three stages with different venues set in the Cuwen scenic area, the Dawenkou cultural site and the Mount Tai scenic area.
The challenge includes trail running, mountain biking, kayaking, orienteering and swimming. Requirements in the different disciplines will be set out by the competition committee at each stage of the challenge.
According to the Tai'an municipal bureau of sports, the event is expected to attract 300 participants from home and abroad. Currently 25 professional competition teams from eight different countries and regions have completed registration. The registration for 50 amateur teams is open for domestic enthusiasts till May 3.
Each team will consist of four members of mixed gender aged between 18 and 60 and possessing health certificates.
The final results for the race will be determined by the time taken to complete all stages including any penalties. The team that finishes all stages in the shortest time will be the winner.
The prize money totals 690,080 yuan ($100,000).
