Jinan choir to compete in 'Choir Olympics'
The Lishan Theater Beyond the Voice Choir from Jinan, Shandong province flew to Pretoria, the administrative capital of South Africa on July 8 to attend this year's World Choir Games.
Hailed as the "Choir Olympics", the World Choir Games is the largest choral event in the world. Founded in 2000, the event is organized by the Interkultur Foundation for amateur choirs from all over the world, regardless of their country of origin, race, genre of music or artistic ambitions.
Held every other year, the event has been held in the continents of Europe, Asia, and North America.
The Lishan Theater Beyond the Voice Choir, consisting of 40 members, is the only team from Shandong to compete in the game. The choir will perform a song eulogizing their home city of Jinan and help promote the city globally.
More than 300 choirs from over 60 countries and regions around the world will compete in the event.
