Weifang Museum is a national first-class museum integrating education, social service, cultural relics, exhibitions, cultural and artistic research, and archaeological excavation and protection.

【History】

Founded in 1962, the Weifang Museum is located in the center of the city’s hi-tech development zone. Its original site was in Shihu Garden, a well-known classic garden in north China built in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644).

After decades of development, the museum has become a comprehensive site with complete facilities and covers an area of 24,053 square meters and a construction area of 18,669 square meters.

【Collection】

The cultural relics in the museum can be classified into 33 categories, such as fossil, ceramics, porcelain, bronze, jade, coin, embroidery, calligraphy and painting, ancient books, imperial seal, and sculpture. Visitors to the museum can have a close look at the fossils of elephant that lived about 200,000 years ago, the iron Buddhist statue of the Tang Dynasty (618-907) and the paintings of Zheng Banqiao, a renowned painter from the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911).

The museum has several fixed exhibitions about the history of Weifang city, painting and calligraphy works, folk customs and arts, and stone inscription and carving. The collections are exhibited with the help plates, models and touch screens so that visitors can learn more knowledge while enjoy the beauty of cultural relics.
