Peking Opera enchants overseas students in Jinan
A group of overseas students from Shandong University recently visited the Jinan Peking Opera Theatre in Jinan, the capital city of East China's Shandong province to experience Chinese traditional Peking Opera culture.
Artists from the Peking Opera Theatre detailed the development history, singing style and characteristics of Peking Opera and also performed passages from such classic repertoire items as the Drunken Concubine and Monkey King.
Foreign students not only had the chance to get a close look at the artists' various face masks and unique theatrical makeup but also received a good introduction to the art of the Chinese Peking Opera.
"The culture activity aims to build a diversified cultural platform for foreigners in Jinan and help more overseas students to get to know Chinese traditional culture," explained Li Xingchun, the deputy director of Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of Shandong Provincial Government.
The activity is hosted by the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the Shandong Provincial Government, Jinan Peking Opera Theatre and the International Students Center of Shandong University.
The Jinan government will also host some similar cultural exchange events to expose its foreign students to some of China's rich traditions.
