Museum housing ancient altar ruins opens in Shandong

JINAN -- An on-site museum housing China's first altar ruins from the Western Zhou Dynasty (1046-771 BC) opened Friday in the city of Zibo in East China's Shandong province.

The musuem, with an exhibition area of 3,100 square meters, includes an underground space housing the altar ruins unearthed in 2009, ancient tombs of the royal families of the Western Zhou Dynasty, bronze weapons and sacrificial vessels.

It also displays the ancient townscape of the early Western Zhou Dynasty via AR and VR technologies and holographic projection.

The Chenzhuang-Tangkou ruins where China's first altar ruins of the Western Zhou Dynasty was found was listed in China's top 10 archaeological discoveries of 2010.
