'Jinan Day' observed at Beijing horticultural expo
The "Jinan Day" event, featuring the city's unique spring culture and local folk customs, was a big success when it was staged on June 22 at the ongoing International Horticultural Exhibition in Beijing, organizers said.
The event, themed with "City of Springs, Charming Jinan", was designed to showcase the city's cultural creative products, tourism resources and horticultural achievements through a series of activities.
A local yangko performance (a popular rural folk dance) with 41 dancers and a stunning acrobatic show were staged at the opening ceremony, attracting lots of visitors from across the world.
Jinan's intangible cultural heritages such as Shandong embroidery, the Rabbit King (a traditional toy in Jinan) and black pottery also went on display during the event.
The Beijing horticultural expo, with its theme "Live Green, Live Better," is the world's largest expo of its kind and opened to the public on April 29 in Yanqing district. It will run until Oct 7.
