Yantai Port now has 10 bracnch ports, including six national first-class ports that open to the outside world, namely Zhifu, Bajiao, Longkou, Laizhou, East Penglai and Haiyang ports.
Yantai provides direct shipping lines reaching more than 100 ports from over 70 countries and regions. It has 170 productive berths, including 64 berths each with a 10,000-ton capacity.
In 2014, the ports in Yantai handled a total of 236 million tons of cargo and 5.79 million passengers.
Yantai Port, located in the east of Shandong Peninsula, is at the core of the International Economic Circle in Northeast Asia.
It is an important hub of the North-South Corridor (from Tongjiang to Sanya) along China's coastline and serves as a crucial junction of the New Eurasia Land Bridge that connects Japan, the ROK and Europe.
As one of the major ports in the coastal areas of China, Yantai Port plays a significant role in the national integrated transportation network.
The international shipping industry at Yantai Port has enjoyed steady growth, with more than 800 international cargo vessels entering and departing every year. In 1996, the port opened two shipping lines to South Korea, helping increase passenger and container transport capacity for both China and South Korea.
Yantai Port enjoys a promising future. It is making great efforts to speed up development of branch ports. Yantai Port rolled out a new layout plan that divides the port into four areas: a passenger-cargo zone, a container zone, a bulk cargo zone and a zone for future development. By 2020, Yantai Port will have 58 berths, including 43 deep-water berths. The total cargo throughput is expected to exceed 400 million tons.
Zhifu Bay Port Area
Zhifu Bay Port Area, a key part of Yantai Port, is engaged in container handling, cargo transport, and shipping service of bulk cargo such as ores, coal, grain, fertilizers and steel.
With a total coastline of 8,300 meters, Zhifu Bay Port Area now has 48 berths, including 25 berths at 10,000-ton level.
The arear is situated next to the Yantai Export Processing Zone, which has been rated as one of the first pilot bonded logistics zones in China. Taking advantage of this opportunity, Yantai Port, Yantai Customs as well as the Yantai Export Processing Zone have cooperated with each other in the integration of port areas, as well as the joint development of the Zhifu Bay Port Area and Yantai Export Processing Zone.
The Zhifu Bay Port Area aims to become a modern free trade port area by expanding the businesses of international transit, global purchase, distribution and international trade.
Western Port Area
Situated in the northeast sea in the Yantai Economic & Technological Development Zone (YETDZ), the Western Port Area is planned to have a sea area of about 500 square kilometers and a land area of 50 square kilometers. The area will consist of five areas for petroleum, liquid chemicals, bulk cargo, general cargo and containers operations.
Based on the plan, 65 berths will be built, ranging from 50,000 to 300,000 tons. The port will be able to handle 200 million tons of cargo and 15 million TEUs every year.
Longkou Port Area
As an important port area in Yantai Port, Longkou Port Area is located in the south of the Bohai Sea and northwest of Jiaodong Peninsula, facing Liaodong Peninsula across the sea.
The area is one of the three core port areas and one of the two million-ton-grade ports planned by the Yantai government. It is also the largest trading port in exports to Africa and bauxite imports.
Longkou is also one of the first ports offering direct shipping service to Taiwan, as well as a major port for coal shipping from North China.
Penglai Port Area
Located in Penglai city, the Penglai Port Area was put into operation in December 1995. It is mainly engaged in passenger and cargo shipping. With a total coastline of 1,400 meters, the Penglai Port Area has seven productive berths and two 10,000-ton-grade berths.
Laizhou Port
Located on the east coast of the Bohai Sea, as well as in the Sanshan Island Special Industrial Zone, Laizhou Port enjoys an advantageous geographical location in the Bohai Economic Circle.
Since it went into operation, the port has played a big role in transporting a large number salt, grains, wood, building materials, stone materials, ores, liquid cargo, fresh fish, shrimp, and clam seedlings among China, Japan, South Korea and the Philippines.
The Dezhou-Yantai Railway under construction will pass through the port area. With more domestic and international routes being opened, Laizhou Port has become a transportation hub for highways, railways and waterways.
Haiyang Port
Lying on the southern coast of Shandong Peninsula, Haiyang Port is close to the Yellow Sea and belongs to Haiyang city.
