Jiading district signed a cooperation agreement with Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine on June 17, to build a Jiading International City of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
Officials from Jiading district and a university leader attended the signing ceremony.
Ma Chunlei, secretary of Jiading district Party committee, said the district will build a modern health city focusing not only on the health of industries, society and ecological environment, but more important, the health of the people.
The project, with a planned land area of 500 mu (33 hectares) will focus on building a general hospital for traditional Chinese medicine with an international acupuncture medical center and several clinical research institutions.
With advantages and resources from the university, the project is expected to introduce a slew of industrial programs focusing on the practice and further development of traditional Chinese medicine.
According to the agreement, Jiading will be responsible for the planning of the TCM city and the construction and funding of the new hospital.
