The Shanghai Poly Grand Theater will open to the public in northwest Shanghai's Jiading district next month, with its first rehearsal scheduled for September 5, according to a report from Shanghai Business News on Aug 26.
Located in Jiading New City, the theater, with its unique "waterscape auditorium", is a cultural landmark in Shanghai.
With a total investment of 700 million yuan ($114 million), the theater includes an opera playhouse, a multifunctional hall, a waterscape auditorium and a roof auditorium.

According to Qin Tiji, who is responsible for the theater's operations, it will provide low-priced tickets and hold art lectures to compete with the other art centers in the downtown area of the city. In response to traffic inconvenience, Qin said the theater will discuss with the district's officials ways to solve the problem.
According to the report, the theater will start its three-month "debut season" from September 30. A couple of well-known artists, including the pianist Fu Cong and tenor Dai Yuqiang, will give performances to local residents.
