Jingdong, a domestic e-commerce giant, announced on Oct 20 that its logistics center “Asia No 1” in Shanghai will go into operation before the November 11 online shopping spree.

The center, located in Jiading district of Shanghai, is one of the largest logistics bases in the country. Its first stage project was completed and began trial operation in June.

The first stage project, with a construction area of nearly 100,000 square meters, is a warehouse for middle-sized products. The warehouse is equipped with advanced automatic sorting and transmission facilities, which greatly improves working efficiency.

The center also boasts a self-developed system for management, sorting, transmission and distribution, paving the way for base construction in Guangzhou, Shenyang and Wuhan.

“Jingdong has been focused on reducing costs, improving operation efficiency and creating a sound online shopping environment for customers,” said Liu Qiangdong, founder and CEO of the company.

After the Shanghai center goes into operation, the operation efficiency of the company will be greatly improved in East China. The center will also open to third-party sellers, creating a new business model in the logistics industry, Liu added.

With the construction of several “Asia No 1” projects in China, Jingdong will not only meet the increasing demand for storage and logistics, but will also provide more storage space for platform sellers.
