Jiading showcases imperial exam culture in North China

( chinadaily.com.cn ) 2015-01-08

The Jiading museum of Shanghai recently hosted an exhibition on the Chinese imperial examination in the city of Handan, North China's Hebei province.

The imperial examination, or keju, is a civil service examination system in ancient China. With a history of over 1,300 years, it was first adopted in the Sui Dynasty (581-618) and lasted through the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911).

The exhibition displayed more than 100 cultural relics, demonstrating the development and social impact of the Chinese imperial examination system to visitors.

Although it was the first cooperation between the Jiading and Handan museums, both parties agreed to facilitate cultural communication between the two places and bring more exhibitions to residents. The Handan Museum is going to host an exhibition on the Cizhou Kiln in Jiading in May 2015.

As an outstanding program for tour exhibition, the imperial examination exhibition has been hosted in over 10 provinces in the country during the past 20 years.
