Taking advantage of its abundant science and technology resources, Jiading district of Shanghai is promoting start-ups, local media reported.
And because of the continuous efforts of the local government, some 48 of the district's 93 scientific research institutes has come forward and offered research facilities and professional services to start-up companies.
Jiading's Juyuan new area is a pioneer in promoting cooperation between research institutes and start-up companies. It signed a co-construction agreement last July with local research institutes to further consolidate the cooperation.
The Shanghai Industrial Technology Research Institute is also launched on the basis of such win-win concept. It focuses on the development and commercialization of microtechnology, backed by the strong academic capabilities from the Shanghai Institute of Microsystem and Information Technology.
Concerning official said cooperation of this kind is a win-win for both of them. Research institutes provide start-ups with high-end experimental facilities and professionals, while start-ups help commercialize the technologies.
The local government said it will continue to explore ways to encourage and enhance the operation such as seeking strategic cooperation with top research institutes, establishing platforms and nurturing intermediary agencies.
