A Confucius memorial ceremony kicked off at the Confucius Temple in Jiading district, Shanghai, on Sept 20.
The event was designed to commemorate the upcoming 2566th birthday anniversary of Confucius, a great educator and philosopher in ancient China, which is scheduled on Sept 28. Hundreds of representatives including Confucius' descendants and enthusiasts of Confucianism took part in the ceremony.
The Confucius memorial ceremony originated from ancient times when students paid respect to their teachers. This traditional ceremony has been held for over 2,000 years and has become a cultural legacy of Chinese people.
Through such events, Jiading district government aimed to inculcate the Confucius' thoughts such as Ren (benevolence) and Li (rites) in local residents and enhance the district's cultural influences.
