Temple fair lures artists, fans

The 9th Nanxiang Traditional Opera Temple Fair and Yangtze River Delta Culture Exhibition Week, a highlight of the 2015 Nanxiang Xiaolongbao Culture Exhibition, kicked off in Nanxiang town, Jiading district of Shanghai, on Sept 28.

The three-day event provided local residents with an opportunity to enjoy excellent opera performances without leaving their homes.

According to the organizer, the temple fair included five performances featuring nine genres of traditional Chinese opera, such as Peking Opera, Kunqu Opera, and Yueju Opera, which attracted a considerable number of enthusiasts.

In addition, more than 20 exhibitions featuring intangible cultural heritage items, such as paper-cutting, Jiading bamboo carving, and clay and dough figurine sculpting, were on display, which helped visitors gain a better understanding of traditional handicrafts.
