A new neighborhood center, the first of its kinds in Jiading New City of Shanghai started operation on Jan 6, local media reported.
The officials say that the center has a mission to enrich local residents' cultural life and offer them convenient life services.
It boasts various activity areas featuring piano, music, painting, tea art, handicraft, dancing, photography and green plants.

And the highlight of the center is its internet-based health examination facility, which enables local people to have blood sugar and pressure tests. Officials also plan to connect the facility with the data platforms of local community hospitals. If that happens, the residents will be able to check their medical records and health examination results without going to the hospitals.
The official added that they will do more to improve its services in an attempt to meet the diversified needs of local residents.
The term "neighborhood center" originated from a concept of new community services in Singapore. It is a kind of commercial center located in residential areas with multiple functions featuring shopping, culture, sports, healthcare and education.
