Jiading Industrial Zone launches charity run

Jiading Industrial Zone of Shanghai recently launched a four kilometer running race for a charitable purpose, local media reported on March 29.

The event attracted more than 500 participants, most of whom are members of local charity groups.

At the ceremony, four youth centers and three charity groups were also announced to open at the zone. It was a call on local workers to pay more attention to exercise and charity.

Officials said that the race is part of a charity program that encourages local citizens to help others by donating their running mileage. The program sets up a goal of 120,000 kilometers of mileage. It aims to raise money to buy love bracelets for the elderly suffering from dementia to prevent them from losing.

The 500 participants contributed a total of 1,800 kilometers this time.

The combination of charity and running is a new practice, which is expected to promote a healthy lifestyle among the citizens as well as encourage more people to take part in the charity career.
