John Tregidga, mayor of the Hauraki District in New Zealand led a group of officials to visit Jiading district of Shanghai on April 6 to strengthen mutual cooperation, local media reported.
The cooperation between the two sides can trace back to April 2001, when they signed the Agreement on Friendly Exchanges and Cooperation.
To enhance the cooperation, Ma Chunlei, Party chief of Jiading district and John Tregidga signed a new agreement on friendly exchanges as well as cooperation.

They also planted a friendship tree at Jiading's Zhongguang High School, Experimental School Affiliated to SISU, and No 1 High School respectively, to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the establishment of friendly relations between the two areas.
Ma said that Jiading has made great advances in the past decade, which resulted from local government's hard work and experience exchanges with other cities.
The Party chief mentioned that they are pleased to have a sister city like Hauraki, which is a good model to learn from. He expected more exchanges between the two sides, particularly in economy and environmental protection.
John said that Jiading's drastic changes over the past decade amazed him. He hoped there will be more cultural exchanges between young people of the two areas, which may be win-win for both.
